- Frodo Bolsón (Elijah Wood) es un hobbit al que su tío Bilbo (Ian Holm) hace portador del poderoso Anillo Único con una finalidad: destruirlo para liberar a los habitantes de la Tierra Media de la tiranía de esta pieza de orfebrería, capaz de otorgar un poder ilimitado al que la posea. Para completar con éxito su misión, Frodo se une a la Comunidad del Anillo, un variopinto grupo de héroes de distintas razas provinentes de la Tierra Media. Hay humanos, como Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen) o Boromir (Sean Bean), magos como Gandalf (Ian McKellen), hobbits como el propio Frodo, Pippin (Billy Boyd), Merry (Dominic Monaghan) o Sam (Sean Astin), enanos como Gimli (John Rhys-Davies), o elfos como Legolas (Orlando Bloom). Juntos emprenderán un largo y peligroso viaje.
